Sony Aibo – Specs

The Li-ion battery has about 2 hours of time before you need to charge it again. It is packed with sensors and cameras all around including the eyes. It also includes touchpads for sensation, motion-sensors and has a six-axis motion feasibility for the body parts. The information collected from these sensors is then relayed back to Sony’s servers that are transmitted via WiFi. The powerful AI engine then does the analysis of this information and then sends back appropriate instructions for the dog to perform. The ERS – 100 processor can recognize up to 100 different people at the same time.

Features

Through the dashboard you have access to, once you create your sony account, you will be able to set up the machine to your requirements. You can teach it basic tricks that are already pre-loaded. However, over time, it can learn from you some additional tricks like dancing. For this, the dog records your actions for about 10 seconds and then repeats them. This is how Aibo will learn everything for the next few years. The slow recognization and repetition are intentional to make the owner feel that the dog is growing up like a real dog.

Price

The price of the Sony Aibo varies between $2900 to a little higher than $3000. This is depending on the state and country that you want to buy it from. The taxes may be a little different in each of them. However, for $3000, Sony claims that it is much more economical than a real dog over its lifetime. You do not have to take it to a vet, there is no need to clean up the pet. The best part is that it is an on-demand pet. This means that you can put the dog to sleep at the touch of a button.

All said and done, there are some cons to this as well. First, it cannot replace a real pet. Deep in the heart, you know that this is just a machine and not a real one. It does not alert you when your son falls off in the well. There are other things it cant do like claim up the stairs and can stay awake only for 2 hours at a time. The Sony Aibo is a display of Sony’s technology capabilities. That surely is impressive.
