Hexapod is a walking robot that has a total number of six legs; hence the name as well. Most moving robots have wheels, but this one moves using its legs. It is also known as a mechanical vehicle that walks around with legs. It can move in any direction.

This robot, unlike the other types of robots, is a slightly elongated one with six legs. Some are symmetrically designed, with the six legs equally spaced around a linearly symmetrical body. This design gives the robot a more natural appearance. It looks more like an insect.

- As it has legs, it can step over obstacles and cross uneven surfaces. You can say that hexapods do not only need flat surfaces to walk around.
- Even if some of the Hexapod’s legs are not functioning, it still can move around.
- As the leg tips of this robot have a shallow surface, environmental effects are less.
Every machine is advantageous to man. But similarly, there are certain disadvantages too. Here are the problems of Hexapod:
- As this robot doesn’t have wheels, they cannot move so fast.
- A complex machine. Therefore, it is a bit difficult to control.
- It cannot carry heavy weights.
Hexapod And Its Legs
You may wonder if this robot will move faster if it has several legs. But the answer to this question is no. Whether the Hexapod has fewer legs or more, the speed it can move will remain the same. Robotic engineers have tested and proved that the speed of this robot will not increase once the number of legs increase.
Above explained briefly is everything you need to know about hexapods. This creation is not like the conventional robots which look and stand like humans. This is more like an insect with legs. Just like all robots, this robot, too, has many uses and importance.
But this robot does not help us do our household work, and it is not able to communicate with humans. Though this robot is not capable of doing many things, it doesn’t mean that this is not a worthy invention. Hexapods are unique and useful in their own way.
